Some Kind Of Illness are an alternative indie guitar band formed in 1999 in Farnworth UK by brothers Mark and Paul Hinks.

After years of traveling and busking around Europe they returned home to record a six track EP called Crazy Train at Clockwork Studios in Chorley with their good friend Oliver Maguire who co-wrote the songs. The EP also featured Michael Pye on lead guitar and Micheal Gallery on Drums.

In 2014 with new member Jimmy Williams, former guitarist of Rochdale rock band I Invented Fire and now of indie band The Holy Dead, SKOI played over a Hundred gigs in Twelve months at some of the most iconic venues in the North West of England,

including a headline sell out show at Manchester Club Academy, Manchester Academy 3, Night And Day Cafe, The Roadhouse, The Ritz, Band On The Wall, The Cavern, The Zanzibar and also supported ex Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley and The Jackals.

They recorded and self released their debut album Some Kind Of Illness in August 2015 which received incredible reviews and support from local radio stations and music magazines. The album is on sale at Piccadilly Records Manchester and as a download on Bandcamp.

SKOI have also recorded demos with and been championed by Manchester guitar legend Vini Reilly (Durutti Column) who has called their music "genius..beautiful calming and real"

After a brief spell gigging with four band members including Williams and Keyboard/guitarist Will Cairns ex The Valkarys , Mark and Paul decided it was best for the band to return to its original format (just the two of them) and started work on a new album set for release in December 2015.

In August they released the first single from the album , Seattle which was recorded in Farnworth and Santa Barbara USA, it features Laurenmarie on cello and backing vocals.

The song was played on The Mark Corrin Show on Salford City Radio the day before its release and is available as a free download on Bandcamp.

SKOI played a live session on the BBC on October 9th and their first London gig at The Garage on October 14th.

What RattleMag think: Some Kind of Illness are all clearly talented musicians and work well as a band to create a gentle indie sound which fits in perfectly with their synth vocals.

Rattle rating: 9/10
