US folk and roots artist comes to Hitchin

On Friday 4th December, Hitchin's Club 85 proudly hosts a very special guest, all the way from Detroit in the USA. Zander Michigan is a folk/blues singer/songwriter, who plays the guitar, the harmonica, and sometimes even plays the fool! His Bob Dylan style vocals, heavy strum, and cheeky lyrics make him a classic sounding musician in an age of futuristic banter. He's developed quite a following the other side of the pond, appearing in the music press and on TV, and gigging extensively, and is now touring internationally in support of his second album, "Zander The Great".
It is one of the venue's occasional shows under the "The Roots & Roll Cafe" banner, seated shows aimed at Radio 2 friendly audience, and featuring an eclectic mix of music from folk, blues, country and rock and roll, to everything in between and beyond.
Headlining on the night are Bedfordshire's Painted Lady, with their bitter sweet male/female vocals, who are releasing an EP shortly. Then there's high flying Walkern star Roxy Searle, who will be playing a rare set of original songs with accompanyment from a percussionist, and new Hitchin rock band Oldskool, featuring Jonathan from Beau Jangles and singer songwriter Ben Fuller. And opening the night is Cambridgeshire's Charmaine Dawson, a gem for the future... Think Kate Bush for the 21st century, and you won't be far wrong!
Entrance is £6 on the doors, and doors to the Whinbush Road, Hitchin venue open at 7:45, with the music kicking off from 8:00. Entry is for people aged 16+ only, and photo ID will be required for anyone under 20. Guests are advised to arrive early to avoid missing great acts and to get the best seats!
