Happy Mondays. One of the most lengendry bands to come out of the Manchester scene are celabrating the 25th anniverisary of their third studio album Pills n Thrills and Bellyaches with a stretch of shows across the UK preforming the album in full.
The night was kickstarted by Alias Kid, a band that has taken the sound from the Madchester scene kicking and screaming into the 21st century, rock 'n roll with a punky edge. Onstage banter gives the band an authentic feel, as they played songs such as 'Revolution Sometime' and a rendition of The Sex Pistols 'Anarchy in the UK'.
Finally, Happy Mondays came on stage, opening with Kinky Afro and proceeding to play Pills n Thrills and Bellyaches in full. Needless to say, the auidience went mental. During an interval between two songs, Shaun Ryder sarcastically asks ''what's the next song? I forgot''.
Bez was energetic as ever as he was passed the microphone he exclaims he had ''one thing to say..... Eee-Arr''. Rowetta was a fierce as she has always been. The only fault I can give is Rowetta coming onstage in a United top, but each to their own. A great night all round, Happy Mondays were as brilliant as they have always been, and I have no doubt they will continue to do so for years to come. A bands who's music is as great live as recorded.
