These Wicked Rivers are a Derby based Rock n Roll band re-inventing the genre with massive riff parts, warm melodies and complete guitar shreddage.
Being gigging as a band since August 2014, These Wicked Rivers have attracted a following for themselves, playing across the Derbyshire area playing many gigs, festivals and and rallys, tirelessly trying to grow as a band.
In July of 2014, the band released their debut EP 'The Enemy' which was recorded with Ben Gaines at Artifex Studios in Derby. The EP showcases the structure and spine of their live performances and shows off their huge influences who are Joe Bonamassa, Black Stone Cherry and Gary Clark Junior.
Kicking off their EP is track 'Ladykiller', which explodes with huge riffage and funky bass. Blues like vocals by frontman John Hartwell are soon mashed in, which gives a statement of the band and who they are. As the song progresses, it only gets better with more riffage and guitar shredding by Arran Day (Lead Guitar).
It's a well known fact that the first song of an EP is the song that leaves the biggest impression, something These Wicked Rivers succeeded in hugely. Meaningful lyrics and mind spinning shredding keeps your ears glued to your speakers begging for more.
As the EP progresses onto their 2nd track 'The Bottom Of Here', that first impression seems to be long lasting and had lived up to my expectation. With more melodic riffs and vocals, they as a band show a how versatile as a group they are. Sticking to their influences, they perform superbly showing of their massive sound and musical performance.
Third track on is 'Can't Take It', a clear winner track on the EP for me. Going back to the groovy bass and riffage of their first track 'Ladykiller' and sticking to the dirty blues like vocals, by now I am following the band on all social media pages and turning my speakers up, just a little bit more. It seemed almost inappropriate to be sat down listening to these guys. As the song finished I found myself whispering "WOW" in complete amazement.
But it's not over, not yet. The EP is topped off by title track 'The Enemy', another outstanding musical performance, by all members. I could continue to say how amazing these are and how big their sound is, but it feels best fitted to let you judge and admire on your own.
'The Enemy' EP gets an impressive 10/10 rating from the RattleMag team.
