Nordic Giants, The Contortionist and TesseracT. It's a Friday night in Manchester, Bowling for Soup are playing in the next building and Soulfly are playing upstairs, the air is electric as masses of music fans take the Academys by storm, something different is going on over our end though as piling into the Academy 2 is one of the most diverse group of fans I haveen in a good while. This night is sure to be an experience I am not going to quickly forget.
Nordic Giants are first on the bill, a memorising group to say the least. The last time I saw this duo their set was cut short, I've been avidly checking the time since I arrived in Manchester, in order to make sure I don't miss a second of their set. This is why... The looks on the crowds faces as they enter the stage, a plethora of emotions are displayed in a few seconds as the band steps in the spotlight of the Academy. With their unique look and a sound that can only be described as transcendent, they manage to transform the venue into something that words don't begin to describe. Their set is flawless, winning over sceptics and appeasing fans alike. This unique band are certainly not to be missed.
Second on the bill are The Contortionist. formed in 2007 and hailing from Indianapolis this band have a refreshing and skilled edge to their sound, opening with Language I: Intuition, they left me in awe throughout the setlist with a well-executed live performance. With three studio albums and three EP's under their belt, their genre spanning sound is sure to take them far.
Finally TesseracT take the stage, this band is as influential as they are captivating, opening with Phoenix, their sound grabs an audience by their balls and refuses to let go, needless to say the crowd went mental, all noticeably appeased by the precise chaos that is a TesaeracT show (excluding the steward I was stood closest to, I don't know what that man was thinking, but he was certainly thinking something).
After thanking the audience and exiting the stage, My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion plays out (at this point I hear 'I'm king of the world' screamed from behind me) a refreshing way to end a show to say the least. Every band on the bill played flawlessly and I would strongly urge anyone into seeing any of them live.
