REVIEW: Reminders, If I Know You

Summer’s finally here, and with festival season right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to give your playlist a shuffle and get some new music into your life. Isle Of Wight homeboys, Reminders, are back with their latest single If I Know You, and you’re gonna want to make room for it.

It's the perfect summer track. Romance songs are hard to get right, they veer off into sickly sweet messes or get tangled up in cliches, but there's none of that right here. The lyrics are cute, even downright adorable in parts, but the whole thing is grounded in so much boyish charm that it never once feels soppy. Add to that a chorus that packs one hell of a punch and a couple of undeniable hooks, and you have a banger that will have you craving a day at the beach.

Even the length is perfect. At just a little over two minutes, it feels like it goes by far too quickly, but that's exactly what keeps people coming back. The short and sweet package leaves you wanting more, it's almost too tempting to skip it back to the beginning just one more time, just to find you're still listening to it an hour a later. It's such easy listening that it's an obvious "put it on repeat" song, whether you're lucky enough to be outside in the sun or you're locked inside revising.

Reminders call themselves a beach punk band, and this track is exactly that. Fun and earnest but just a little bit tongue in cheek, it's exactly what you'd expect from a trio whose tastes run as diverse as Green Day to The Who to The Cure. It brings all the holiday feeling you'd expect from a summer anthem along with an edge you probably wouldn't, and the combination is as irresistible as any stick of rock.

Rattle Rating - 8/10
